Public schooling in Falcon is under the charge of Falcon School District 49, which also serves a portion of Colorado Springs. The district manages about 14 campuses and a student population of roughly 10,000. Notably, the Falcon school district has a partnership with the Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department to provide for engaging after-school activities for local students.
The natural landscape of Falcon is breathtaking. The immediate area is characterized by rolling prairies and lush meadows that extend out to mountain ranges in the distance. Both in and around Falcon, there are natural areas to explore and outdoor activities to enjoy. Notable natural sites within driving distance include Bear Creek Nature Center, Cheyenne Canyon, Garden of the Gods Visitor Center and Park, Manitou Springs and Prospect Lake.
Falcon residents don’t have to enjoy nature at the expense of variety, however. Nearby Colorado Springs provides a wide range of educational, recreational and cultural activities that complement Falcon’s more relaxed atmosphere. For example, one can browse fine art and sculpture at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center or learn some history at the Fort Carson Museum. Aviators will be sure to stop into the Edward J. Peterson Museum, and fitness enthusiasts can tour the United States Olympic Training Complex.
The weather in Falcon is mild and ideal for year-round outdoor fun. In winter, temperatures are brisk, ranging between the mid-teens and the high-30s. Things warm up gradually throughout the spring, reaching average highs in the 70s and 80s by July and August. Annual precipitation totals about 22 inches, with much of this falling in the spring and summer.
